Written while day-dreaming of sleep.
It’s Wednesday which means there are only two more days to the weekend, hang in there. I am really excited about this blog today because we are talking about at home self-tanning.
It is already mid-October which means our summer tans are fading and we need to do something about it. I was recently watching Casey Holmes Trying New Drug Store Makeup video where she mentions how she just used her Loving Tan and is loving her tan. Go figure.
She looked so tan and beautiful in the video that I immediately ordered the Loving Tan 2 Hour Express Deluxe Bronzing Mousse in the color Dark and the Deluxe Applicator Mitt for $44.95 on the Loving Tan website. I got free shipping, and it arrived within four days.
The customer service was spectacular, I received multiple emails updating me on the status of my order and was even sent a video on how to apply a flawless tan at home which was very helpful. Inside the box was a cute little note from the Loving Tan team thanking me for my order and encouraging me to use their hashtag when posting pictures and reach out to them if I have any questions.
Unfortunately, I totally forgot to take before and after pictures. I got too excited.
Let me start off by saying that I am not an experienced self-tanner. In the past, I have used the NKD SKN Gradual Glow Daily Tan Moisturiser from Ulta in the winter to get a medium tan which is relatively straightforward to apply and not a very deep tan either.
I watched the video Loving Tan emailed me and with my previous experience I felt I was ready to take on an intense product like this one. I highly recommend watching some YoutTube videos before applying whether you are experienced or just starting out.
The Deluxe Applicator Mitt is so incredibly soft, softer than any other mitt I have used which made applying the mousse so smooth and streak free. I’m not going to lie; I used way too much product to my hands because I usually have a problem with not tanning my hands enough. I went way overboard this time though and ended up with very orange hands. I am not too worried about it since I wash my hands A LOT and it will eventually fade. Something to note, if you don’t get the back applicator you are going to need a buddy to apply the tanner for you. I didn’t have either so my top of my back is a completely different color…but we are going with it.
I got my toe done yesterday, and I was concerned that the manicurist was going to rub the tan off my legs during exfoliation but it didn’t rub off at all. I was extremely impressed! My legs look phenomenal with no streaking or a ton of patchiness; I have some clumping around my knee, but it’s not very noticeable.
Other than my hands turning out very orange the rest of my body tanned pretty nicely, my body didn’t come out as dark as I would have liked so next time I plan on applying more product. Although, not as dark and I would have linked I didn’t get any strange streaking or patchiness that can sometimes happen with other products, so I am impressed.
The smell…if you know what a self-tanner smells like you know what I am talking about. This product smells like a self-tanner, not as intense as other products I have used, but it’s definitely there. It doesn’t smell right away, but it develops over time. The reason why I picked the 2-hour express formula was mainly because I hate how self-tanners smell and how they feel on the skin.
I set the timer on my phone and did some things around the house while waiting, staying away from water, and just hopped in the shower when my timer went off. You can see the color guard come off in the shower, but it’s not going to stain your shower or anything like that.
Public Service Announcement
“Tanning can cause longer-term health effects. Being exposed to UV radiation can cause your skin to age more quickly and can increase your risk of developing skin cancer. Cumulative exposure to UV radiation is known to increase the risk of developing skin cancer and other negative health risks.” – Health Canada
Visiting tanning beds is so dangerous for the skin and the negative effects are not worth being tan. Self-tanning methods like Loving Tan, lotions, spray tans, etc. will give you the same effect as visiting the tanning bed without the risk of skin cancer, eye damage, and other very serious health problems.
I used to go to the tanning salon every single day in high school because I wanted to be tan and didn’t care what the consequences were. I honestly wish I could go back in time and smack myself in the face. I was being stupid and damaging my skin more than I thought I was. I have a dark spot on my chest now that will never go away on its own as a result of too much tanning. Do yourself a favor and use products like Loving Tan to get that bronze look in the colder months (or all year round) instead of tanning in a tanning bed, you will thank yourself later.
I hope you enjoyed this post and give this product a try. If you do, send me some before and after pictures since I obviously dropped the ball on that one.
I will see you back here on Friday for another Fresh Finds Friday post. In the meantime, check out Monday’s post and read about the new Smashbox products I picked up.
