Written while pre-gaming for Cinco De Mayo.
As I mentioned in my Monday Makeup – Sephora post from a few weeks ago I have been helping a friend of mine get into the beauty/makeup/spend all your money at Sephora world, and that got me inspired to write this post. If you are something who is trying to get started in buying makeup or just someone looking to get back to the basics, this one is for you.
In order for your makeup to look more beautiful and radiant, you have to make sure your skin is more beautiful and bright. Hydration is key for people with oily and dry skin. Using a moisturizer every morning and overnight will prevent wrinkles, hydrate, and keep your skin looking healthy and glowing.
I use two different face lotions, one in the morning before applying makeup and another one at night before going to bed. In the morning, I use Eucerin Daily Protection Moisturizing Face Lotion (the one with the second drop circled) for $7.59 and at night, I use bareMinerals Butter Drench Restorative Rich Cream for $38.00.
Sidebar: My skin care routine is a little intense only because I have acne prone, sensitive, and combination skin. If you are interested in a more in-depth post on my skincare products, let a girl know in the comments.
You have heard every YouTuber and blogger on planet earth talk about primers. The information is out there on what primer will work best with your skin. Using a primer is going to help your makeup last longer, but it is also going to create a barrier between your face and the makeup. This product will also protect your face from the chemicals in your makeup and prevent your pores from getting clogged. Primers also help your makeup go on more evenly and smoothly. I use The Benefit Cosmetics POREfessional Face Primer sold for $31.oo at Sephora.
Again, the information is out there on what foundations are going to be best for your skin. Picking a foundation is very hard work but here are some questions to ask yourself before purchasing. Are you looking for a light, medium, or full coverage? Are looking for a drugstore brand or high-end brand? What are the natural undertones of your skin, pink, natural, or tan? I use the Clinique Beyond Perfecting Foundation + Concealer in Linen, yours for $27.oo at Sephora. You can also find more information about this foundation here.
Tay’s Tip: You want to match your foundation to your neck, not your face. If you match your foundation to your face, your neck and face will be two different colors. Also, if trying to pick a color in Sephora, the lighting is terrible, use the light on your phone.
BRONZER, BLUSH & HIGHLIGHT
Your best color will depend on the color of your skin tone and if you are going to a soft or bold look. I tend to use deeper colors and stay away from the pinks. You also want to pick a bronzer that is going to complement your skin tone. If you have natural undertones in your skin, you will want to go with something more natural and less pink. For lighter skin tones stay away from the super deep bronzers and get something with a cool undertone. Highlighters are either BAM in your face or soft and elegant. It is up to you to decide what look you are trying to achieve.
Learn more about the bronzer I am obsessing over at the moment here and if you want to know more about highlighters let me know. Right now I am using BECCA Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed in Champagne Pop
If you are planning on wearing your makeup for more than a few hours, I suggest using a setting spray. I use the Urban Decay All Nighter Makeup Setting Spray every morning before work. I put my makeup on at 6AM and don’t usually take it off between 8PM – 10PM that is 14 plus hours of wear time! The only thing I don’t absolutely love about this setting spray is that contains alcohol which can’t at all be good for your skin but let’s be honest…that why it works so well. Yours for $30.00.
I have learned two things from writing this post. One, I spend a lot of time and money at Sephora. Two, I am very basic in my product selection and I am proud.
If you have any more questions, leave them down below. I hope this helps! Later alligator!
