Homemade Hand Scrubs

DIY, inexpensive crafts, dollar store, cheap

Welcome back my lovely crafters! Today I am going to show you have to make Homemade Hand Scrub. This craft is especially fun because most of the ingredients you need are already in your kitchen!

I made a few different kinds of scrubs only because I wanted to experiment with different textures, smells, and effects.

Here is the list of the ingredients I used but by no means do you have to use all of these too.

Ingredients you need to make Homemade Hand Scrubs

Main ingredients:

  • Raw sugar – $4
  • White sugar – $3
  • Brown sugar – $2
  • Epsom salt  – $4
  • Small jars – $9 for 12 pack (I bought the 4oz jelly jars from Walmart)

Secondary ingredients:

  • Coffee grounds – $4
  • Coconut Oil – $6 (varies)
  • Honey – $4 (varies)
  • Lemon – 40 cents?

Optional ingredient:

Total Cost: ~ $40  But remember you already have most of what you need in your kitchen!

Let’s get started:

You just mix one main ingredient with coconut oil and lemon/essential oil. You want to aim for a 2:1 ratio, meaning you want twice as much sugar/salt then you do coconut oil.

Mix all your scrubs with the back of a spoon. At first it will seem like you don’t have enough coconut oil but with enough mixing everything will come together.

Side Note: Some people suggest melting the coconut oil prior to adding to the main ingredient but I didn’t, and my scrubs came out fine.

You want your scrubs to be a little chunky like sand. You don’t want a super runny mix unless you do…

Tip: Don’t work your mix too much. The most you mix your scrub the more the sugar brakes down, and you end up with less scrub.

Wrapping things up:

Once you have gotten your mixture to where you want it, but plop some into a jar, label, and you’re finished! You can give these as gifts, keep them around the house or bring a jar to work and keep it in the bathroom for others to use.

Temporary labeled Homemade Hand Scrubs until labels where made
I temporary labeled my scrubs until I made the actual labels so I could remember which jar contained what scrub.

Like I said, I didn’t really measure anything. It’s not really my thing. So here are some recipes I used sticking to the 2:1 ratio.
